story lines

in every story there is a subtext
and if it is your story
and you're very very lucky
you can change
stretch it out
mute it
mellow it
make love to it
turn it inside out
and it doesn't have to be sad
anymore
the thing is
our stories can change
but it takes a lot of ink
you have to stay up late at night
with wild arms and words
that rattle the house
you have to walk
around with it
walk around
till you can let it go
be
change

I prefer to let things go all at once in a moment you won't find particularly important at the time, but much later you remember how someone looked in the sun. How they sat there and drank coffee and ate blueberry pancakes. How little dappled light fell all over the place. You grinned and the server saw your teeth and everyone had soft shoulders.
