a poem a day for a year # 141

by Amy Turn Sharp

my boys yell out
pause game
the modern Freeze!
when they want to grab a drink or pee
while playing action and wild boy pretend
I wish I had this power too
to pause life
and let me walk around these people
this frozen moment
take photographs of the still life simplicity
run my hand across their backs
kiss their foreheads
seek
a tiny recess
a lull
in the pounding forward motion
the runaway steam train days and nights of love
