a poem a day for a year #36

by Amy Turn Sharp

I like being a mother

soft and warm and fierce

but I like the

the rites of passage

the vision questing bits

best

I like opening up my heart

and letting them reach inside

pluck pick take

gather

give

everything

life is wild and wonderful

I get to teach you how to kiss

how to open up small bird mouth

perfect circle

bring it to me like a charmer

come here baby

this is how you do it

kiss me

my sweet darling

do it again and again

for the rest of your long life
