a poem a day for a year #310

by Amy Turn Sharp

I woke up before you
sat on the edge of the bed
blankets like rivers
limbs like boats
this is my life
you stir and my
heart falls in place
boom boom boom
wrenches and rackets
light falls from the window
you make me real
old people tell you
every day is a gift
we unwrap them now
we say it like rosaries
as we peel off our clothes
